Weather Patterns
In South East Queensland, as we are in the sub tropics we experience two distinct weather periods, the wet and the dry. Further in-land in to Ipswich and out to Toowoomba we experience hotter dryer temperatures. Closer to the coast temperatures in Brisbane- Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast bring more moisture and cooler temperatures. The wet is not only hot it is also the storm season which brings high winds torrential rain and hail. Hail stones tend to fall in some places regularly where other places customers claim not to have experienced them.
The wet season has many of us feeling concerned that we don’t have enough protection for our valued assets i.e. vehicles, boats, vans & uncertain if we are to cop the full brunt of a storm.
Sun Orientation Vs Shade Sail Height
Firstly, think about designing/installing a sail that is fit for it’s intended purpose. So what is the purpose of your shade sail? Is it to block the afternoon sun, or is it to protect against hail or bats/bird waste or privacy or is purely just meant to look good.
Generally, it is a combination of some or all of these factors. However, a key and critical factor is the height of your sail. Why height? Well simply the higher you erect the sail the less shading hours or footprint coverage over your intended area you will get throughout the day.
Alternately, having the sail too low can cause it to rub on objects. Hence through planning of your shade sail through consultation will enable Superior Shade Sails to optimise your shade sail design.
Pre Made Shade Sails
Do Superior Shade Sails Install pre made sails? The answer is always NO.
We get asked this question on a regular basis “I have a sail bought from Bunnings and have picked up a few posts, can you come and install the sail to my house?”. Or: I have taken down an old sail from Smith Street and want it installed in my new address can you do it.
My Response is nearly always the same: No, but do you know a good handyman?
Why don’t Superior Shade Sails install pre made sails?
Firstly, it is not the business Superior Shade Sails is in.
Secondly, the Building Process:
The non custom sail puts the cart before the horse, in other words its installation is governed by the size of the sail. With a custom shade sail, no two shade sails are built the same.
Thirdly, Technically Speaking:
Superior Shade Sails are custom made items. Shade Sail sizes are determined by fixing points on buildings and posts in ground. Shade Sails are not commonly designed/built in a flat plane, like a flat roof. Shade Sails are commonly built in a 3 dimensional aspect with complimentary high and low points. Materials used are designed and often cut using sophisticated machines and stretched into place by an experienced on site installer.
Finally, Strength & Superior Shade Sails
Superior Shade Sails have been built mm perfect to their points and allowed for fittings such as turnbuckles, shackles etc. They have 316 marine grade perimeter wire and rigging, also have the option of marine grade thread that will last in the QLD sun for more than 15 years.

How to get the WOW Factor?
We want your job to look the best it can. Triangular shade sails are a common request. However, they provide little shade in comparison to a square shape. However, don’t let that influence your decision making as highs and lows and irregular shapes are often the most appealing and satisfying. Be prepared to change it up after all it is your outdoor space!
Keep a Budget in Mind:
Superior Shade Sails vary in price around the home and generally fall between 2-5k. Commercial jobs generally start at 5k and head north. Superior Shade Sails know the importance of getting value for money and shade sails are no different.
